Auto Conversion Kits for Natural Gas

    Natural Gas Fuel

    • Methane serves as the primary natural gas fuel for cars. However, some natural gas fuels also use biogas, which is a gas that rises up naturally from decomposing biological products often found in landfills. This natural gas also usually contains some carbon dioxide and nitrogen, which are compounds released by many living organisms through respiration. The natural gas stores in cylinders that are easy to store. Also, cars that run on natural gas do not need their lubricants replaced as often.

    Kit Function

    • Auto conversion kits allow car owners to convert their cars to run on a different kind of fuel. Compressed gas fuels are better for the environment than traditional fossil fuels such as diesel and gasoline. Also, these fuels are more available than other kinds of fuels.

    Dedicated or Bi-Fuel Kits

    • Car owners can choose between either dedicated conversion fuel kits or bi-fuel kits. Dedicated fuel kits allow car owners to completely change the fuel type that the car runs on, while the bi-fuel kits allow car owners to run their cars on multiple kinds of fuel.

    Cylinder

    • The conversion kit has tanks shaped like cylinders. Natural gas has a pressure range that lies between 3,000 and 3,600 per square inch, or PSI. These cylinders have a good chance of leaking out the natural gas fuel, but this gas spill is not toxic and will not harm the environment.

    Regulatory Approval

    • The EPA and some statewide agencies must approve all fuel conversion kits. You can only use the conversion kits on specific kinds of engines, not on all vehicles. Conversion kits are not available for all cars. While the cylinders in the kits can be expensive, car owners can get tax write-offs for using cars that have natural gas.

    Mechanical Requirements

    • Changing the car to a natural gas-powered car requires a lot of mechanical aptitude. Fortunately, those who do not have experience with automobile mechanics can hire a professional mechanic to install the cylinder.
