Handmade Wax Paper Christmas Stars

    • 1). Tear off 16-inch long pieces of waxed paper. It's fine if the paper edges are uneven since you're going to cut shapes out of the center of the paper.

    • 2). Fold the waxed paper in half. Unfold the paper and lay it on a table.

    • 3). Peel red and green crayons. Use a handheld pencil sharpener or an old food grater to turn the crayons into shavings. Shave red crayons into one bowl and green crayons into another.

    • 4). Sprinkle shavings in an even layer across one half of the open waxed paper. You may either combine red and green shavings on the paper or fill one piece of waxed paper with red shavings and another with green. Sprinkle silver or gold glitter across the top of the crayon shavings.

    • 5). Fold the waxed paper over to cover the crayon shavings. Fold over the edges on the three open sides to keep the shavings inside. Place the paper between two pieces of newspaper or thin towels.

    • 6). Warm up an iron on a low setting. Run the iron over the paper a few times. Pull up the newspaper or towel to check if the shavings have melted. Continue running the iron over the covered waxed paper until the crayon is melted.

    • 7). Let the waxed paper cool completely. Trace star shapes onto the paper. Cut the stars out.

    • 8). Punch a hole in one tip of each star. Loop red, green or metallic ribbon through each star. Hang stars from the branches of your Christmas tree or in windows.
