- 1). Draw your room on a sheet of plain or graph paper with a pencil. Include the doorways, windows and other features in the room.
- 2). Sketch the L-shaped sectional in proportion with the size of the room on another sheet of paper. Also, draw any other furniture that belongs in the room such as an end table, lamp or other chairs.
- 3). Cut out the furniture representations with a pair of scissors.
- 4). Arrange the furniture drawings on the paper to determine the best arrangement of the furniture. Place the sectional sofa drawing across from the focal point in the room, such as a TV, entertainment area, fireplace or an attractive view, since it is most likely the largest furniture piece. Using the paper prevents you from having to move heavy furniture more than once to determine the best placement.
- 5). Position the furniture pieces so they do not to block the traffic flow to another room, such as a hallway or entrance to the bathroom or kitchen area. Take care to arrange the furniture so that people don't have to walk in front of the sectional sofa to pass through the room and interrupt the conversation flow.
- 6). Move the actual sectional sofa and other furniture to the best placement in the room.
- 7). Surround the sectional with an end table, a potted plant or floor lamps to provide a cozy setting. Place the end table on the opposite end from the L-shaped section if possible.
- 8). Add smaller pieces of furniture so that everything centers around the focal point, since it is likely you do not have the space for separate conversation or seating areas.
