Vitamins for Men Only

    Vitamin H

    • Although hair loss occurs in both men and women, hair loss is more typically a male concern and can be caused, in part, by a deficiency of vitamin H. Vitamin H, also known as biotin, is used by the body in the production of cell growth and, in particular, the production of fatty acids which help release energy from food. Additionally, biotin is necessary for a healthy metabolism and healthy hair and skin. Vitamin H can be found naturally occurring in cheese, cauliflower, eggs, chicken breasts and beef liver. Supplements are also available and recommended for men who wish to prevent hair loss or to control existing hair loss.

    Vitamin E and Lycopene

    • The prostate glands are peculiar to men and, like hair, seem to be an area where men are vulnerable to misfortune. Lycopene, when taken in conjunction with vitamin E, can reduce the risk of human prostate cancer. The carotenoid lycopene is a powerful anti-oxidant which, when combined with the catalyst and antioxidant vitamin E, has been shown to reduce the growth and spread of prostate cancer in men. Both vitamin E and lycopene are available in several multivitamins like Centrum Ultra Men's and Just Once Men's Multivitamin. Lycopene is most commonly found on the plate in the form of tomatoes which also contain a small amount of vitamin E. Get the best of both worlds without the vitamins by taking 1 teaspoon of wheat germ oil per day (which contains 100 percent of the daily vitamin E requirement) and having a tomato in your salad.

    Vitamin B Complex

    • The importance of B vitamins cannot be underestimated. B vitamins are essential for the production of energy in the body, for the digestion of food and for a balanced nervous system. Included in the vitamin B complex are vitamins B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B9 (folic acid), B12 (cyanocobalamin), choline, biotin (vitamin H as well as B7) and inositol. Like vitamin C, B vitamins are water-soluble, meaning that getting more than 100 percent of the daily value is not dangerous.
