How to Set Out Artificial Grass

    • 1). Clear the lawn area of branches, rocks and other debris. Remove any remaining grass with a sod cutter.

    • 2). Set up the perimeter for your turf. Insert stakes into the ground around the perimeter of the area where you want to set out the artificial grass. Connect those stakes to each other by screwing the planks of tanalised wood to the stakes. Hammer the stakes into the ground, leaving only the top 4 inches of each stake above the surface. Attach the wood so that it creates an enclosure around the perimeter that touches the ground.

    • 3). Compact the ground inside the perimeter where you plan to lay the artificial grass. Run the compactor over the entire surface to level it. Fill the perimeter with 1 to 3 inches of stone aggregate. Go over the perimeter with the compactor again to press the aggregate down to level.

    • 4). Cover the aggregate with a layer of fine sand up to 1/4 inch deep. Place the artificial grass on top of the sand. Trim the artificial grass to size and lay the grass so that the seams of each section overlap just slightly.

    • 5). Fold back the seams of the artificial grass where they meet. Roll out a strip of seaming tape along the line where the seams meet. Spread a layer of artificial grass glue over the tape. Carefully put the seams of the artificial grass back into place, pressing them down against the seaming tape. Glue them to hold them in place.

    • 6). Press the seams together with your hands or roll them with a lawn roller. Work the seams together until the seam disappears and the grass looks seamless.
