- The 1998 Ford Windstar has a three-liter V6 engine in the base, cargo and GL models, and puts out 150 horsepower and 185 ft.-lbs. of torque. A 3.8-liter V6 in the LX and Limited models produces 200 horsepower and 240 ft.-lbs. of torque.
- All models, with the exception of the Limited, have a 20-gallon fuel tank. The Limited adds another 5 gallons of driving range. All models have an EPA-rated fuel economy of 17 MPG on city streets and 25 on the highway.
- Child safety locks are standard on all 1998 Windstar models, as well as driver and passenger airbags and anti-lock (ABS) brakes. Power locks and windows are standard on the LX and Limited models. The 1998 Ford Windstar offered the "More Door" (Ford's Family Entry System), a larger driver's side door to access the rear seats to compete with competitors offering four-door minivans.
