How to Build a Mirror Frame

    • 1). Use the measuring tape to determine how far from the wall your mirror protrudes. Cut small wood spacers (shims) to that thickness and attach them to the wall using the glue and screws. Be sure to put one at least at every corner and in the center of each side.

    • 2). Measure the height and width of your mirror. Add all four sides together to decide how much trim to buy. If you do not have access to a miter saw, you can have the trim cut to length before you leave the home improvement store.

    • 3). Decide if you want the frame to be painted or stained. A light sanding of the raw wood, then a coat of primer and paint, or several coats of a self-sealing wood stain should prepare the wood nicely. Prepare both sides of the wood, otherwise the reflection in the back will show and ruin your outcome.

    • 4). Mount the corner blocks first. Glue them to the spacers, and secure them with tape until the glue dries.

    • 5). Do a "test drive", hold the trim pieces in place and mark where the spacers are. Remove the trim and drill pilot holes where you marked the shims. Now you can secure the trim using the screws and adhesive.

    • 6). Touch up the holes you made with putty and dabs of paint. Caulk and fill any spaces between corner blocks and sides.
