- 1). Remove the Allen bolt from the top of the stem and the two lateral bolts clamping it to the steering tube. The handlebar and stem assembly should slide off. Tap it with the mallet if it is seized or stuck. Slide the forks out from underneath and lift the bearing cups from the headset.
- 2). Remove the headset cup, using the headset remover tool or by gently tapping around the inner edge with a flat-bladed screwdriver. Place the lower plate of the gyro on the frame headtube and place the headset cup on top of it. Tap it back into place using the mallet, with the gyro plate sandwiched between the frame and the headset cup.
- 3). Replace the headset bearings, the forks and everything else but the stem. The upper tube of the forks will protrude from the top of the headset. Before replacing the stem, slide the upper plate onto the tube and rotate the two gyro plates until the side tabs line up. Replace the stem and line up the bars with the front wheel. Fit the Allen bolt to the top of the stem.
- 4). Identify which parts of the y-cables are the uppers and which are the lowers. They are approximately the same length and should be labeled. Slot the single end of the uppers into the brake lever and run the opposite end down to the gyro. Thread the ball-ends through the receivers and hook them to the small slots on the lower part of the gyro plate.
- 5). Connect the y-cable lowers to the bottom gyro plate and run them to the brake caliper. Slide the cable into the locking nut on the brake caliper and tighten it. Secure the loose cables to the handlebars or forks using zip ties to ensure that they don't interfere with the gyro's operation. Adjust the brakes using the rotary barrels on the lever, the gyro receiver and the brake caliper. Take up additional slack to provide a responsive feel.
