The 2004 Forenza came with driver and front passenger airbags only. All other model years came with standard front and side/curtain airbags for front passengers. - Anti-lock brakes (ABS) are an option on Forenzas. To get this safety feature, a customer must select specific trim levels or add it as a stand-alone extra-cost option. The ABS option includes electronic brake-force distribution, which allows the car to brake evenly instead of overusing the front brakes.
- The Forenza has received four stars out of five in government crash tests involving a frontal impact. Similarly, the Forenza has received the second highest rating for frontal impacts in insurance industry testing. However, the vehicle has performed poorly in insurance industry and government crash tests involving side impacts. The National Highway and Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) rates the vehicle at four out of five stars for side impacts but has noted a safety concern in its results.
