In an Apple store, in Sydney, dozens of people showed up waving the placards with "Wake Up" written on them and chanting the same last week. This was a PR gimmick arranged by the Samsung Company to show its leading position in the phone market.
The Samsung, undoubtedly, has proved itself as one of the leading company in phone manufacturing industry but despite of this, the company is working strongly on its PR as last week nearly a dozen of people arrived in an Apple store holding the placards of "Wake Up" and was chanting the same. Along with this on Thursday Samsung also made the billboards paced showing launch countdown of the Galaxy S3.These PR skill and self promotion of Samsung Company has been confrontational for others.
It was big news on Thursday that Samsung has pushed all his competitors, including Nokia, and has become the largest seller of mobile phones worldwide, for the records Nokia was holding its position since 1998. It has not been officially announced by Samsung but can be guessed on basis of quarterly results of 2012 it suggests that Samsung left Nokia behind in shipment of smartphones as well as more in basic handsets known as "feature phones".
An estimate was made by Researcher Strategy Analytics which shows that Samsung has achieved a sale of 93.5m units which was counted as an increase of 24.6m from last year. Even if Galaxy Note and tablets are not included, Samsung has made a sale of 87-89million of handsets, said Gartner. Apple has also taken a leap in its sales by 35.1m units up to 21 March of this year and analysis says that Samsung has sold 44.5m smartphones in the same period. It has been also true that Samsung has outsold the iPhone in 2011.
According to Francisco Jeronimo, analyst at IDC, Samsung's Galaxy series has been success because of better technology than the iPhone at lower prices for example, when iPhone was offering a 5 MP camera at same time Samsung Galaxy SII was showing up 8MP of camera. Jeronimo says that Samsung not merely copies but also it innovates. One can see that by just looking into the records, the Galaxy Note was expected to make a business of 2m units in its lifetime but, it sold 5m in just five months. In the year of 2011 Samsung was only top-five handset maker to increase market share in competition of iPhone in Europe and the US.
