- Skin yeast infections are caused by a combination of moisture and heat. For very active people, a common place to get a skin yeast infection is under the breast or between the thighs. The combination of sweat and friction from clothing can result in a skin yeast infection.
- Overweight people tend to get skin yeast under excess skin folds as well as under their breasts. The moist, dark and warm environment is an ideal place for the yeast to grow.
- Diabetic people are prone to skin yeast infections, especially if they are also obese. Being obese and diabetic increases your chances of getting skin yeast infections. In diabetics, the infections will be more severe with inflamed areas and blisters.
- Tight clothing and synthetic fibers are also a cause of skin yeast infections. When skin is not able to breathe due to clothing restrictions, bacteria can build up, causing a yeast outbreak.
- Skin yeast infections can be treated with oral medication, but this is only necessary if home treatments do not work. Dandruff shampoo containing selenium sulfide is known to eliminate the infection. It should be applied for 10 minutes and washed off for several nights in a row. Melaleuca oil is also effective in the treatment of skin yeast infections.
- Some people are more genetically susceptible to skin yeast than others and may have several reoccurrences. To prevent skin yeast outbreaks, wear loose-fitting cotton clothing, especially when exercising. You should change clothes immediately after working out. Also, use cornstarch (never talcum) powder to keep areas on your body dry.
