How To Get Rid Of Excess Water Weight

Water retention is a condition whereby the body is not able to get rid of excess water in the body. Therefore the excess water is stored in various parts of the body like; the feet, arms and ankles. See my previous article on the causes of excess water weight. There are various ways of getting rid of the excess water in the body.

Stay Hydrated

Water is very essential to the body and at times fluid retention can be caused by lack of enough water in the body. The body needs water and when you are dehydrated the body tends to retain the water instead of dispelling it. This then affects the functionalities of the kidneys which will affect the functionalities of the liver making it hard for the body to burn fats. Water also enhances the metabolism process therefore increasing the efficiency of the body in burning fats hence losing weight. When drinking water it is advisable you drink in bits instead of drinking a gallon at once. This because when you drink a lot of water at once the body will see it as excess and pass it to the bladder instead of absorbing it.

Reduce Salt Intake

According to a research conducted by Mississippi State Department of Health most Americans take double the amount of salt they are supposed to everyday. Excess consumption of salt can be harmful to the body because it allows the body to store a lot of water. This causes swelling on various parts of the body. Try to avoid processed foods because they usually contain salt, avoid salty foods as well like fries and salted snacks.

Exercise and sweat it out

One of the leading causes of fluid retention is lack of exercise. So it goes without saying that exercise will help you get rid of the excess water in the body. This will help you get rid of the excess water because through exercise you will sweat and also improve the circulation of blood and enhance metabolism.

Always keep your feet elevated

The point here is to enable proper circulation of blood from the feet to the heart. When you are lying down make sure your legs are higher than the heart. You can place a pillow or two under your legs to help keep them elevated.

Eat Fruits and veggies

Fruits and vegetables will help strengthen body tissues and contain a lot of water.  You can also drink fruit juice it serves the same purpose but avoid drinking a lot of it because it contains a lot of sugar and no fiber. Also avoid things like soda and any products that contain caffeine.

These are just but a few of the things that can help you get rid of the excess water in the body. Water retention itself is not harmful to the body but might cause other complications or it might be a sign of other diseases like blood clots and low blood pressure. Take caution and see a doctor for check-up to be safe.
