- All Nissan Almera engines from 2000 until 2006 had a water-cooled four-cylinder inline engine. There are a total of four valves per cylinder in duel overhead cam configuration.
- The 140 horsepower I4 is found in the base, S and SL Nissan Almera trims. A bore and stroke of 3.31 and 3.55 inches combined with a compression ratio of 9.7:1 produced a maximum output of 140 horsepower at 5,100 rpm and a maximum torque of 147 pound-feet at 4,800 rpm.
- The 177-horsepower I4 is found in the SE-R trim. It has a compression ratio of 9.5:1, and a bore of 3.50 inches and a stroke of 3.94 inches. This produces a maximum output power of 164.9 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 174.8 pound-feet at 4,000 rpm.
- The 200-horsepower I4 is found only in the SE-R Spec V trim. A bore and stroke of 3.50 and 3.94 inches, combined with a compression ratio of 10.5:1, gave an maximum output of 199.9 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and a maximum torque of 180 pound-feet at 5,200 rpm.
