How to Use Antivert As an Antihistamine

    • 1). Talk to a doctor. Though Antivert is an antihistamine medication, it is often prescribed for motion sickness instead of allergies. When the problem arising is allergic in nature, such as rashes, and requires an antihistamine medication, most doctors will suggest something like Benadryl or other over-the-counter medications. To obtain Antivert for its use as an antihistamine, talk to the doctor about the medication and the problem and request a prescription. Anyone with allergies to meclizine should not use Antivert.

    • 2). Take the medication in the doctor-recommended dosage. Antihistamines can take a few hours before physical results are shown, such as a diminishing of a rash, which makes it tempting to take more medication. Only take according to the dosage the doctor recommends and which is written on the bottle.

    • 3). Avoid taking other medications that cause drowsiness. Antivert can result in sleepiness and drowsiness and compounding it with alcohol or other medications that result in drowsiness can intensify the effect.

    • 4). Avoid driving or other activities that require focus. Due to the drowsy effects, driving or operating other machinery is not suggested for anyone taking Antivert.
