Wash the area around the urethra with an antibacterial soap or wipe. Men should thoroughly clean the head of the penis, and women need to wash the area between the labia. - 2). Place a sterile container for catching the urine flow within reach of the toilet.
- 3). Urinate a small amount into the toilet bowl to clear the urethra of any contaminants. Then place the sterile container in the flow stream of the urine and urinate approximately 2 to 3 ounces into the container.
- 4). Remove the container from the urine stream and finish urinating into the toilet bowl.
- 5). Place the container on a nearby surface and put the top on it until you are ready to put the pH test strips into the urine to test pH balance.
- 6). Remove the cap from the container with the urine sample. Place the test strip into the urine and read the strip according to the directions on the package.
