Can You Put K&N Air Filters on a Diesel Car?

    Research

    • The first step in installing a K&N filter on your diesel car is determining which filter is right for your specific application. Visit K&N's website (see Resources below). There you will be able to search by make, model and engine size to see if K&N currently makes an air filter for your vehicle. You can order the filter directly from the website, or you can use the K&N dealer locator to find a local retailer.

Installation on a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

    • K&N air filters are a direct replacement for the stock air filter in your vehicle, meaning they require no special modifications. In a diesel-engined vehicle such as the Volkswagen TDI, simply pry off the spring clips that secure the air cleaner lid to the base, and lift the lid out of the way. Pull the old filter element out and set the K&N filter in its place. Close the air filter lid and reattach the spring clips.
