- Cadillac began producing its mid-size luxury sedan in 1975, calling it the Seville, but the name had been available since 1956 as a trim level for the Eldorado. The fifth generation of these vehicles, from 1998 to 2003, was updated from previous versions with an extended wheelbase and improvements in the suspension. The Seville was discontinued after the 2003 model year. In 2001, this sedan was available in two trim options, the SLS and the SLT.
- The SLS had a 4.6-liter V8 engine with dual overhead camshafts. Each cyclinder had a bore of 93mm, a stroke of 84mm and a compression ratio of 10.0:1. This engine produced 275 horsepower and 300 foot-pounds of torque.
- This sedan had four disc brakes and a four-wheel anti-lock brake system. It had an independent strut front suspension with a stabilizer bar and coil springs and an independent multi-link rear suspension with a stabilizer bar and coil springs. It was built with automatic leveling in the rear suspension.
- With a curb weight of 3,986 pounds, this sedan had exterior dimensions of 201 inches long, 75 inches wide and 55.7 inches tall. It had a wheelbase of 112.2 inches.
- The SLS had an 18.5-gallon fuel tank, and had an EPA estimated fuel economy of 15 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. This vehicle could seat five individuals and had a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 pounds.
