Colorado - Land of Red-Colored Earth

The name Colorado originated from the Spanish, because of the red-colored earth.
Colorado has a diverse topography which includes plateaus, mountainous terrains, plains, rivers and canyons.
It has the highest elevation, about 3,280 feet above sea level, in the United States.
A few of the attractions in Colorado are -- Grain Elevators and Water Towers These grain elevators are a unique feature of Colorado because of the rich grain belt in the region.
The area produces corn, oats, soybeans, wheat and hay.
Elevators are buildings used for storage of grains and they have a bucket elevator, which is used to scoop out the grain, which is then put into silos.
Mountains in the Rockies Snowcapped summits of the Rocky Mountains are a major feature of Colorado topography.
These summits, which are generally covered with snow, are a popular attraction for tourists who love sports like skiing, mountaineering, rock climbing, and rappelling.
In the Colorado Rocky Mountains, there are more than 30 summits where one can enjoy landscape surrounded by evergreens.
Cliff Palace This is palace sits amongst amidst craggy rocks and terrain.
It is one of the largest rock dwellings in the world, and lies in Southwestern Colorado.
It has 20 magnificent halls which are laid out in the form of an amphitheater.
Canyons Many canyons in Colorado makes it one of the most sought after places for adventure seekers.
A couple of the canyons are Black Canyon and National Reserve Park.
There are many others.
These canyons provide rafting, rock climbing and mountaineering opportunities.
Dinosaur National Monument This monument is a natural wonder in the Green Canyons area, and contains fossils of dinosaurs which have been found in the huge dinosaur graveyard lying between Colorado and Utah.
National Recreation Areas Two areas, Arapaho and Curecantim have been designated as National Recreational Areas.
The attractions here include rivers and dams, canyons, dinosaur fossils, marinas, the Never Sink Trail, Crystal Creek, Mesa Creek, Dillion Pinnacles and Pine Creek.
There are also several other national parks and eco-zones which are enjoyed by tourists.
