How to Sew a Braided Rug

    • 1). Cut out three long strips of fabric each measuring two inches wide and 10 feet long. Pin the strips together at one end using a safety pin.

    • 2). Stick the pin into a piece of cardboard, then hold the cardboard between your knees. This will allow you to keep the fabric strips stationary as you braid them together.

    • 3). Braid the three strips of fabric together into one long braid. Keep the braid as tight as you can, which will make the finished rug more durable.

    • 4). Pin the end of the braid together using a second safety pin.

    • 5). Wind the long braid into a spiral, and pin the spiral together along the seams.

    • 6). Sew along the pinned seams using nylon thread. Nylon thread is clear and durable, allowing the sewn seams to be camouflaged. Tuck the outside end of the braid underneath the rug, and sew it down. Remove the pins, and place your braided rug on the floor for use.
