- 1). Check your tires for wear. As you drive, your tires wear from naturally from being on the road. The way your tires wear will tell you a lot about what your car needs. If the tires have wear marks in the center, then it is likely that they are overinflated. These marks will make the tires look smooth or slick. Wear marks on the outside of the tires means the tires are underinflated. Tires that are worn between the first and second grooves require alignment. If any of these elements are present, you should take your car to a tire technician for correction as soon as possible.
- 2). Listen for squeaking or screeching noises from your Liberty. These noises are generally associated with the belts connected to various parts of your engine. Loose belts or worn belts cause the car to squeak or screech with quick acceleration. To check your belts, place the car in park and lift the hood. While the car is still running, have someone to press the gas and look at the belt to be sure that there is no gap during the rotation. You may not be able to visualize your belts. If you can not see the belt but hear the sound, take your car to a dealership for inspection.
- 3). Check the performance of your vehicle. If you notice your Subaru stalls a lot, gets harder to start with time or if it runs roughly no matter what you're doing, you may need a tune-up. A tune-up changes the oil, flushes the transmission fluid and changes the spark plugs to improve the daily performance of the vehicle. Your Liberty's owner manual will give you information on how often you need a tune-up. If you notice issues in the driving performance of the car, there may be a need for unscheduled maintenance.
