How to Kill Rice Moths

    • 1). Remove all items from the infested cabinets or pantry. Dispose of any rice or grain containers infested with the moth larvae. Place the infected containers in a plastic garbage, tie the bags closed and put them in an outdoor garbage can.

    • 2). Vacuum the area where the moths were found. Remove the shelves, if possible, and wipe them down with a household cleaner. If there are any cracks, crevices or deep corners in your cabinets, vacuum and wipe them down extra carefully as the larvae hide in these places.

    • 3). Place any high-value infested food or items on a baking sheet. Heat the oven to 130 degrees Fahrenheit, and place the baking sheet in the oven for 30 minutes. This will kill any remaining moths and larvae, and the temperature should be low enough to not cook or damage your items. In most cases, however, it is best to dispose of any infected items.

    • 4). Place all rice and grains in air-tight containers or sealable plastic bags after cleaning the cabinets and returning the items.
