- Moonroofs are electrically operated and usually offered as an add-on. The moonroof is typically made of glass by domestic manufacturers, while painted steel panels are used in some imported cars. Moonroofs open fully.
- Sunroofs can be electric or manual. Some slide or fold as they slide. Others pop up manually, or pop up and slide; and some are completely removable. Models also are available that consist of two removable glass panels.
- Both sunroofs and moonroofs are designed to let light shine into the vehicle and allow fresh air to circulate. They can be controlled by an electronic control module that allows express opening and closing. Some may also feature an auto-close option when the ignition is turned off. A more basic control is a push-and-hold switch.
