- 1). Break the room into square or rectangular sections, if the room is not already square. Bumpouts, angles and closets should be treated as their own, separate area and measured individually.
- 2). Measure the length and width of each section in inches. Multiply the length and width in inches together to get the area in square inches, and divide this number by 144 to get the square feet of each section. Add each section together for the total amount of square feet required to tile the space.
- 3). Add 5 percent additional tile for cuts and breakage if laying the tile straight with no pattern. Add 20 percent additional tile for cuts if laying the tile on a diagonal, and 15 percent additional tile for multiple-piece patterns or designs.
