- 1). Consult the owner's manual for your Jeep Liberty and check for the appropriate tire size. The Liberty speedometer runs on the total revolutions of the tire, meaning that if the size of the tires differs from what is recommended in the Jeep manual, you will notice a different reading on the speedometer.
- 2). Drive your Jeep Liberty around the block once or twice to check if the speedometer is registering a speed. If you see that it isn't, you will have to take your Jeep to a mechanic to get a new one installed. Installing a new speedometer must be done by a mechanic who must calibrate it.
- 3). Take your Jeep Liberty on the highway, along with a passenger, and accelerate to 60 MPH. Instruct your friend to look out for mile markers then have him start a stopwatch when you pass one and stop it when you go past the next one.
- 4). Note the time it took to complete the mile in the Jeep. If it took considerably more or less time to complete the mile going at 60 MPH, then you need to purchase the right size tires for your Jeep.
