- Baby's first birthday party should be short and sweet.Birthday Baby eating her cake image by Photoeyes from Fotolia.com
Babies first birthday is a milestone event you will want to share with family and close friends. Celebrate with a short party since a 1-year-old doesn't have a long attention span. Include a few games for little ones and throw a couple games in for the adults as well. Remember to take lots of photos. - Play a silly prediction game with your 1-year-old and any other young children in attendance. Set up items that represent different professions. You can include your guests in this. Encourage them to bring something to the party that represents a particular job; such as a first aid kit for a doctor or nurse, a dictionary for a teacher, a notebook for a writer or journalist and so on. Set them out on the floor and cover them all with a blanket. Let the birthday child crawl to the blanket and then uncover the items. The first item that the child chooses predicts their future profession. Repeat the game for other children.
- This game is for all the adults at the party. Play an at-home version of the television show, The Singing Bee. Instead of using songs from the radio, use nursery rhymes and other children songs. Give the title or first line of the song, and the guest has to finish it by getting as many lyrics correct as possible. Make it a little more challenging by having them include the correct hand motions. The Singing Bee-Nursery Style is fun for baby's to watch.
- Young children enjoy simple games. Fill a bucket with soft balls or toys. Let the baby dump it out and put it all back inside again. Include small wrapped gifts like a cloth book, bath toys and noisemakers. Laugh as they dump it out and they will probably laugh too.
- Another game for the adults and older children. Start with a small gift. Layer it with several sheets of wrapping paper. Play music as the guests pass the gift from person to person. When the music stops, the person left holding it unwraps one layer. Start the music again and repeat the process until the last person unwraps the gift. The person holding it then gets to keep it.
An option is to include a note in between each layer of wrapping paper. The person who unwraps a layer has to read their message and do what it says. You can have them write their name with their opposite hand, do jumping jacks, sing a song or answer a trivia question.
