Some people hesitate to play casino craps because they do not know the correct amounts to bet when betting the odds.
This is a valid concern because it is best to adhere to proper betting units that correspond exactly with the odds for each number.
Making a mistake is not the end of the world, but the casino will round down the payment of a bet that does not fit the formula.
Although betting the odds in craps may look difficult, it is really straightforward and easy to remember.
And asking your dealer or floorperson about the correct bet is always acceptable.
For example, on a point of six or eight, you would want to bet your odds in $5 units because the bet wins exactly $6 for every $5 that is bet.
The units necessary to bet the odds on the other numbers are a little easier.
You do not have to strictly adhere to the $5 units if you do not want to do so.
The formula of 3 to 2, which is the odds for a five or nine, can work with many amounts.
As long as your bet is divisible by two, then your payoff will never be rounded down.
Because the four and ten pay 2 to 1, any amount works with that formula.
The next important consideration when making an odds bet, is the betting range.
The casino determines the monetary amounts that it accepts as bets.
A standard craps game allows the player to take double odds.
This means that an odds bet can be twice as large as the pass line bet.
For example, a $10 pass line bet can be saddled with a $20 odds bet.
The double odds game is a typical venue, but in Las Vegas where casinos compete like Latin American soccer teams, other options exist.
You will see signs and advertisements proclaiming 10x odds! Instead of being restricted to the lowly level of mere double odds, players at such a casino can place odds bets ten times the amount of their line bets.
Variations on this theme, such as triple odds and 5x odds, also exist.
A few casinos even boast games that allow tremendous 100x odds.
If your budget allows or you are simply wired with that gene that gives you a propensity for risk-taking behavior, go ahead and take all the odds that you can.
Getting paid odds is a good feeling, and the pleasure increases proportionately with the size of your bet.
However, if you are more comfortable with double odds, you can play that way without shame no matter what range the casino offers.
I have heard of the existence of single odds, but it sounds pretty lame.
If you are getting single odds, I hope you are only in your basement playing dice with your buddies from work.
