Have you ever wanted to get away from it all? I mean shirk responsibility and just take a month off and go do what you want to do? Is it fair that we have to spend 50 weeks of the year working for a living just to take a two week vacation that is both rushed and overly expensive? I say that it is completely unfair and that I have found a better way to live that offers you the opportunity to control your own destiny. Let me explain.
I think that van living may be the solution to the problems that many of us face. Think about it. If you were to live fulltime in a van, you could definitely lower your monthly expenses by a significant amount. So, you may ask, what good does it do to lower my monthly expenses? Well, for starters, lower expenses equals less need for money and that means less time spent working to earn that money.
If you currently work full time and make $3000 per month after taxes, which means you are making about $18.75 an hour (one month = 160 hours of work). Now, with rent and utilities and car payments and you get the idea, that $3000 doesn't go very far. However, if your monthly expenses were less, such as with fulltime van living, you would have a couple of options.
There are two distinct ways to look at this. First, you could continue to work full time, spend less on expenses, and save the rest. This is a viable plan and can help you get to a point where you have a sufficient amount of savings and investments that generates an income for you to live very well. Second, an alternative option would be to just work less and make only what you need to pay for your new lower overhead van lifestyle. Either way, you could have more freedom to live the way you want and spend your time the way you want. It's really up to you.
