County Kerry - Great Driving Routes You"ll Love to Take

Ring Of Kerry The most famous driving route in Ireland, never mind County Kerry, is the magnificent Ring of Kerry.
The Ring of Kerry is a 170km long, circular driving route which will carry you around the Iveragh Peninsula and through colourful towns and villages, past major tourist attractions and into the very heart of some of the most amazing scenery in the world! Starting off in Killarney with its charming streets and lake & mountain views, you will follow the N72 route to Killorglin (a slight detour at Fossa will take you to the stunning Gap of Dunloe) and onto the village of Glenbeigh (Kerry Bog Village is just prior to here) and then the town of Caherciveen.
Taking the N70 from Caherciveen, next on the list is Waterville where the Charlie Chaplin statue by the beach provides a unique photo opportunity.
From Waterville continue on to Caherdaniel and then onto the town of Sneem, through the village of Templenoe and onto the charming town of Kenmare with its many restaurants and pubs.
From Kenmare, you will make your way northwards towards Killarney where this circular driving route comes to an end.
Slea Head Another fantastic circular driving route, Slead Head takes you to some of the most westerly points in Europe where stunning coastal views along the Atlantic Ocean await your arrival! Beginning in the town of Dingle, make your way along the R559 through the small (but very scenic) village of Ventry where you can stop off for a stroll along the beach.
The next part of this driving tour will take you to the village of Dunquin and along the way you will experience the breathtaking views over the Blasket Islands and on a clear day the Skellig Islands as well as some purely stunning cliffside views! From Dunquin, you will move northwards but inland towards the welcoming village of Ballyferriter and then eastwards to the equally charming village of Ballydavid before heading southwards to arrive at the tourist town of Dingle.
We recommend that you set aside about half a day for this driving route in order to take in all of the attractions and scenic spots.
Conor Pass The Conor Pass is not a circular driving route but is most definitely a tour that is worth taking when you visit Co.
Kerry as it is the highest mountain roadway in Ireland.
No surprise then that you're going to need your camera as every twist and turn of the route brings ever more dramatic scenery.
The landscape has been shaped by extreme glacial activity which present stunning mountain, lake and valley views directly from the road.
We recommend that when you get to the top of the Conor Pass you should stop off at the car park and take in the wonderful views and avail of this amazing photo opportunity.
The roadway itself carries some precautions with length and weight restrictions in place and unfortunately larger vehicles such as camper vans, caravans or lorries are not permitted to use the Conor Pass.
The Conor Pass runs from Dingle to Kilmore Cross on the northern peninsula where the road branches off to Cloghane and Castlegregory so either of these villages can be visited at the beginning or end of your drive.
Valentia Island Not a driving route as such but Valentia Island offers a nice detour off the Ring of Kerry and provides some memorable coastal views along with the charming villages of Knightstown and Chapeltown.
Valentia can be accessed by road bridge from Portmagee or during the summer months we recommend that you take the wonderful car ferry across from Renard Point - it's just a 5 minute crossing but the views are truly amazing! When you make it to Valentia Island, head to the pretty villages of Knightstown (with its beautiful waterfront) and Chapeltown and other notable views that you should seek out include The Lighthouse, the Slate Quarry, Fogher Cliffs and Glanleam Beach.
Valentia is very peaceful so we suggest that you take the time to explore the island at a leisurely pace and stop off to meet the locals who are always extremely welcoming and friendly.
Brandon Bay & Tralee Bay This is an often overlooked driving tour in Co.
Kerry but it is a route that provides some breathtaking views of the North Kerry coastline.
Leaving Tralee town, follow the N86 to Blennerville where you can stop off to visit Ireland's largest working windmill before making your way on to the picturesque village of Camp with some stunning views along the way.
From Camp, follow the R560 and travel on to beautiful village of Castlegregory who's coastal location means it is a favoured haunt of watersports enthusiasts.
From Castlegregory, continue your driving route by journeying on through the villages of Stradbally, Cloghane and then heading northwards to the very tip of the Dingle Peninsula to the village of Brandon.
This route will provide you with some stunning views of Mount Brandon and the North Kerry coast across to Banna Strand and Fenit while also offering some hidden gems of the Dingle Peninsula's north coast.
