Wooden cut outs can be found in almost every shape and size imaginable, from tiny letters to large stars. They are available in craft stores and online at sites such as Woodcrafter.com and Factorydirectcraft.com. Inexpensive and versatile, these cut outs are a true staple in a crafter's provisions, providing tons of different project ideas that can easily be assembled with the help of some creative thinking, glue, paint, and other craft materials. - Wooden shapes can be painted, decorated, and then glued to a clothespin to create a unique note or photo holder. Once you are done, you place a photo in the grip of the clothespin and stand it on its legs. These can be given as gifts or placed on your own desk. Use different wooden shapes to customize holders for holidays, seasons, or events. For example, glue on a jack-o-lantern for a cute Halloween picture or use a stork to adorn a holder for a photo of a new baby. The possibilities are endless.
- It is quick and easy to craft magnets by using wooden cut out and some adhesive-backed magnet tape. Depending on the shape you choose, you can have seasonal magnets that you change accordingly, or ones that are suitable for all year. Decorate the cut outs to suit their purpose and then simply attach the magnet strip to the back and hang. Make a bunch of coordinating magnets and give them as a gift.
- Wooden cut outs can be used to make name tags, labels, or as gift tags. Using paint, foam, and other craft supplies, decorate an appropriate shape. Use turkeys as place cards for Thanksgiving dinner. Or try football shapes to label food at a Super Bowl party. You can have these place cards lie flat or you can glue them to a small block of wood to allow them to stand. Also, you can use a clothespin, as you would for the photo holder. Use flowers or heart-shape cut outs to create tags for Mother’s Day gifts. Write a name on the shape using a permanent marker or a paint pen to personalize it.
- There are wooden cut outs in all sorts of Christmas shapes, from bells to Santa. Decorate one of these, or make your own ornament by putting shapes together to create something new. Circles can be turned into snowmen; several small cut outs glued together in a circle can become a wreath. Punch a hole and thread ribbon for an ornament that is ready to hang. Use your imagination and create ornaments for your own tree and as gifts for family and friends.
- Children can make quick and easy pins by using wooden cut outs. Allow a child to choose whatever shape she desires and then use paint, foam pieces, markers, and felt to decorate the shape. Then simply glue on a pin backing and you have a handmade pin to give as a gift or to wear proudly.
