- The FJ Cruiser has a more powerful engine than many smaller vehicles and alternative SUVs. The Cruiser features a 4.0-liter, V-6 engine with 260 horsepower at 5,600 rpm. The engine produces 71 foot-pounds of torque at 4,400 rpm and has a compression ratio of 10.4 to 1. The Cruiser tows up to 5,000 lbs. and has a maximum payload of 1,285 lbs.
- The FJ Cruiser is not as fuel efficient as most compact cars and many smaller SUVs. The 4x2 gets 17 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway, while the 4x4 AT gets 17 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. The 4x4 MT gets the worst gas mileage: 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. All models have a 19-gallon tank.
- The front seat room is an advantage, while the back seat room is less than many competitors. The Cruiser offers 41.3 inches of headroom in the front and 40.3 inches in the back. Legroom is 41.9 inches in the front seat and 31.3 inches in the back. Shoulder room is 58.4 inches in the front and 53.9 inches in the back. Hip room comes out to 55.4 inches in the front and 51 inches in the back.
- The design of the FJ Cruiser means that it is rugged enough to be used for off-road activities, though it lacks some of the features some prospective buyers might want. There is no option for a DVD player in the back. There are also no options for leather seats or seats that can be adjusted using power controls. Child safety locks are not present in any of the trim levels and you must pay more to get optional keyless entry.
