You have now fallen in love with this furry little creature enough to go buy yourself a new ferret and have also found them to be fascinating pets.
Even with being wild animals to begin with they are able to be domesticated into a great pet for your house.
However your adventure in ferret land needs to be prepared for.
Several precautions have to be taken for you have fun raising a ferret.
Allowing your pet to become orientated is the secret to welcoming this new ferret to you house and family, so give it enough time to get used to its cage so it can feel comfortable and protected.
Let it be in the cage for awhile and it will become secure with its environment, then slowly let it stay out of the cage for short periods of time so it can explore a bit.
The first training to take place needs to be potty training your new ferret.
Ferrets happen to be smart critters that can learn how to use litter boxes like cats do.
Sadly though teaching most ferrets to use the litter box is not 100% foolproof.
You can do your best attempt with effectively training your ferret and it will still have some accidents around the house.
So play close attention with the training for the litter box to cut down as much as possible on the accidents.
Normally this training takes a few months and should begin in one of the small areas in your house like the bathroom.
Allow the ferret to roam this room, understanding they usually relieve their systems right after eating or waking.
So confine the ferret to a litter box long enough for them to finish relieving itself.
Let them go afterwards and give them a treat.
Soon they will relate a treat with using its litter box.
Just be careful not to punish your ferret though for accidents, this will do away with all the good training you have done and only make this small animal be afraid of you.
It will forget the pleasant association of the treat with the litter box.
Remember that even though your train them thoroughly, if you allow your ferret to have the run of the house then small accidents can occasionally happen.
Ferrets are wonderful small creatures which enjoy running unencumbered to explore.
Make sure to ferret-proof any part of your home where you are going to let them run free.
You need to rightly assume that spaces which a ferret can get their head in they can also get their bodies in.
So inspect your home first for any openings or holes the right size for the ferrets to fit into.
The appliances in your kitchen are special dangers for your ferrets due to the fact they can get into the spaces on the backs and get hurt by the electrical wires, fans or other parts.
The vent tubing for the clothes dryer is dangerous because the animal can tear a hole into the material and run through it to the outside.
Your furniture that has cushions can be hazardous too.
These animals are able to rip into the thin fabric and get hurt by the coils.
Ferrets definitely are cute small critters that will work their way into your heart.
They are also a delight to watch scampering through your house.
So make sure to take the proper precautions to guarantee your adorable new ferret will be in safe surroundings where it can have fun, while giving you a lot of enjoyment over the years.
