- Women have the right to choose their birth setting from those available to her based upon information received regarding the costs, benefits and risks.
- A pregnant woman is entitled to get the majority of her care from a provider, or group of providers with whom she feels comfortable. If she finds that she is uncomfortable or unsatisfied, she has the right to switch to another healthcare provider.
- Pregnant women have the right to accept or refuse treatment, procedures, tests and medications. They should not be chastised or refused treatment because of their decisions.
- A pregnant woman has the right to have a copy and interpretation of her medical records regarding her care during labor, childbirth, postpartum care and the care of her infant.
- In accordance with the Civil Rights Act of 1964, a woman working for a company of at least 15 workers cannot be refused a job because she is pregnant, fired from the company or demoted. Pregnant women are entitled to keep working at their job as long as they are able to perform the necessary duties.
