- Red eared sliders are relatively small turtles with a streamlined, greenish shell and a yellow underbelly. They get their name from the red stripe that is present on either side of their head.
- Red-eared sliders are omnivores. They eat everything from small fish and snails to a variety of aquatic plant life in the wild, and fruits and veggies in captivity.
- Females of this species are generally larger than males. Females grow to be 25 to 30 cm. in length, while males grow to be 20 to 25 cm in length.
- Red eared sliders are native to the southeast United States, from the eastern coast as far west as Texas, and from the southern coast as far north as Illinois.
- Red eared sliders need proper amounts of water and heat, as well as a balanced diet in order to be healthy.
