- Diesel cars are up to 35 percent more efficient than gasoline-powered cars, resulting in considerable dollar savings over time, even though diesel fuel is typically slightly more expensive. Diesel engines also produce more torque, which provides greater acceleration.
- A diesel engine has fewer parts than a gasoline engine, so it needs less maintenance and lasts longer. Gasoline engines, though, are cheaper. Diesel cars have better resale values and maintain their value longer.
- Diesel is a dirtier fuel. Diesel combustion results in more vehicle emissions than gasoline combustion. Diesel cars are less common in the U.S. than Europe because emission standards are higher.
