- 1). Feed your soft-shelled turtles a variety of fresh meats aside from commercial food. They enjoy live feeder fish, tadpoles, snails, worms, raw chicken liver, raw hamburger or small shrimp.
- 2). Supplement your soft-shell turtle's diet with small amounts of dog food if it is difficult for you to routinely feed them fresh or live foods.
- 3). Monitor your soft-shell's turtle food intake. If your turtle is shy and won't feed around you, watch for how quickly food disappears and if fecal matter is produced. Soft-shelled turtles become accustomed to overeating if given too much food, and can become overweight easily.
- 4). Offer your turtle pieces of its favorite food on your finger to train it to eat from your hands. It can take time, and some turtles will never get accustomed to hand-feeding no matter how patient you are.
