Honda Pilot Specifications

    • The Honda Pilot was introduced in 2003 as the second SUV produced by the company. The Pilot has undergone several changes, both interior and exterior, since its debut. The 2003 Honda Pilot came in LX, EX and EX-L models, while the new 2011 Honda Pilot adds a Touring model to the lineup.

    Engine and Fuel Economy

    • The Pilot's engine has remained mostly the same since 2003, adding only 10 horsepower to the original 240 horsepower, 3.5-liter V6. Fuel economy for the 2003 through 2011 models has remained at about 17 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. However, the 2003 models came with a 19-gallon fuel tank, whereas the 2011 models come with a 21-gallon fuel tank.

    Transmission and Drive Type

    • For 2003, the Pilot had a five-speed automatic transmission, same as today. In 2003, the Pilot came only with all-wheel drive. Each model of the 2011 Pilot is available with front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, and comes standard with electronic stability control. Rack and pinion steering and anti-lock brakes are featured on every Pilot.

    Interior and Safety

    • Since its debut, the Pilot has had seating for up to eight people, with front bucket seats and two rows of bench seats. The LX and EX models come with cloth seat trim, while the EX-L and Touring models come with leather seats. Each model comes with rear air conditioning with separate controls, as well as power locks and power windows. Safety features include driver and passenger front- and side-impact airbags, side-impact bars, and four-wheel anti-lock brakes. The 2011 Pilot comes with first- and second-row curtain airbags.
